First Trimester
Acupuncture is a safe and natural way to treat a number of the unwanted symptoms that come with the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. During this stage, we focus on keeping Qi and blood in harmony within the body to create a healthy foundation for your pregnancy by nourishing your baby, the womb and lining.
The first trimester of pregnancy will incur changes in hormone levels, the fatty tissue and muscles in the body, and the size and shape of your uterus and from early pregnancy, the yin and yang, Qi (energy flow) and blood must gain a new balance. Requiring different parts of the body to work harder to ensure there is adequate circulation being sent to the uterus. When there is difficulty rebalancing to these new demands in the first trimester, symptoms such as lack of energy, nausea, vomiting, anxiety, headaches, heartburn, constant urination, dizziness, insomnia, spotting or vaginal bleeding, and back aches may start to arise. Acupuncture in the first trimester will focus on balancing yin and yang, Qi (energy flow), and blood.

Acupuncture is a safe and effective way to turn a malpositioned foetus. Your practitioner will help to prevent any blockages by releasing Qi to help baby move into an optimal position for birth. We typically recommend starting this treatment around 32–36 weeks, depending on your practitioner’s assessment.
During the last few weeks of pregnancy, your acupuncture treatments will focus on preparing the body and mind for the delivery. During this stage, the acupuncture can assist with cervical ripening and relaxing tendons and ligaments in the pelvis. It will also increase blood ow, which can improve nutrition to the baby via the umbilical chord and decrease stress. Research shows that receiving regular acupuncture for 30 weeks onwards signicantly decreases the risk of a medical induction, emergency caesar, forceps delivery, the need for epidural and decreases the length of active labour. In preparation for birth, acupuncture has been found to be highly effective in encouraging and progressing labour once the due date is reached.
